Underground
This geographically accurate map of the London Underground would have been a good idea, back in the time. I remember visitors, walking like crazy, and me trying to convince them that walking was just a better alternative, that the other tube station was only minutes away from where we were.
Sometimes they believed me.
UPDATE: Now you have the old, traditional map of the underground, with walkways indicated. There you go: User friendly maps.
The tube was clean, but it was out of service, often. Also the lack of AC was pretty bad. Cabs were very expensive, and not always an option.
