| | I saw again “Apocalypse Now”,but this time the Redux version, with the dead cows and happy bunnies. At the beginning it is easy to get all political about it,and have an antiwar feeling about the whole enterprise. But then the madness takes hold of you,and if as in a dance you partake [...] Check Kottke:he has a list of 102 movies that you have to watch. Of course,I love all things passive, and the list is impressive. Have I watched all these movies? Let’s see * 2001:A Space Odyssey The 400 Blows * 8 1/2 * Aguirre, the Wrath of God * Alien All About [...] Since it seems to be possible to patent ideas, plots and subplots (just ask the software industry and its stupid patents),we should all band together and patent the following methods to arriving at a suitable script or novel: set up a community of human beings that are being deceived;set up a community of [...] And now,to be fair, and because it is so ever true,Now look,I’ve given a million ladies a million foot massages, and they all meant something. We act as if they don’t but they do,that’s what so fuckin’cool about them. There is a sensual thing goin’on where you don’t talk [...] Because I feel lke this today: You read the bible? Well there’s this passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17. “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who,in the name of charity and good will, shepherds [...] A quote for you:You smell that? Do you smell that? Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn’t find one of [...] Of course movie executives pander to those in power! Art as always done so,from Virgil to whatever name you want to think just now. Also impressive how these themes bounce around, getting everybody’s attention and echoing the approved content, taking ideas from the political discourse and pushing them along with the images and special [...] I assume she came,we never saw the sex scenes! Last weekend went to Along came Polly,a disturbing exercise in sameness and substitution of clichés for the happy consumption of middle America, the same one that considers it ok to have some “Friends”in NY with absolutely no Black,Latino or other “ethnic”characters. This movie is rife with platitudes, underdeveloped characters, weak plot and a completely base and stupid premise. They first present you with the ethic dilemma, should a husband repudiate the woman that is unfaithful to him in his first day of honeymoon? Mind you, there is no easy answer to this,we learn, and Debra Messing’s character jumps, suddenly, from merely confused redhead wife to redhead bitch. Uh? And it is worse for Mrs. Jennifer fake-breasts fake-ass fake-nipples Body-Double Aniston-Pitt:she is a poor waitress, that speaks eloquently, has aversion to commitment similar to a neurosis, spends whimsically on overpriced household items even with a meager waitress check and her fashionable thrift store clothes, and embarks on trips at the drop of a hat. Her lithium is,obviously, lacking. But,even its characters are as complicated as a vanilla ice cream, and their premise is as absurd as watching Dragonball Z,these movie is offensive! The Latino macho that dances seductively with the lead female, yes? Gay. Please, the stereotypes! There, you diffuse the confrontation element and appease the masses, while at the same time portraying a nice, inclusive, diverse population. Only one problem with that:calling risky activity going to a salsa club in NY is like arguing that meat and potatoes is an exotic recipe. The Latino population of NY is estimated to be a 27%,based on the last census. People, more than 1 out of every four people you meet in NY is Latino! Of course, you wouldn’t know that if all you watch is Friends (from the same network channel whose CEO said that they “made TV for the ones that are likely to watch it,not the ones that will steal it”. His actual words, quoted from the Wall Street Journal) or if you are middle white America, where the idea of an intelligent, educated diverse population is still an oxymoron. Point is,are Latino the new servants? Easy marks for disparaging comparisons, not enough representation and only mild political clout, and of course, they won’t be angering anybody! Last Jackie Chan and Chris Rock movie, they stump into Latino gangsters. Last dance scene with least political implications? Ben Stiller shaking the ants of his trousers while,Anniston looks, amazed,in slow motion, never mind that a) New York is the birthplace of salsa, and that b) Stiller is pathetic. Of course,no Latinos work at the risk assessment firm featured in the movie. That would have been too ethnic. Overall, this movie sucks:Underdeveloped characters, lame comparisons, jokes that are old the first time, full of stereotypes and misconceptions, and a premise that was OK for TV forty years ago,but that now is simply insulting. You liked the trailer? Good,Stick to that. Hugo is the original Nigeria male scam! Spam comes from the matrix!! now it is all clear! 4- he was the voice of Rex,the sheep dog,in Babe. Matrix, anyone? 5- he was Mitzi del Bra. Still is,for that matter. It was almost painful, going from laugh to laugh, watching the RotK with Armando and Hemant, who obviously do not care about tradition and carefully marketed movies, and their comments through all the movie. Pippin and Merry? Gay. Sam? Bisexual. Aragorn? “Mi name is Iñigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!” The action, wow, confusing! But seeing Agent Smith play his role once more –and avoiding the obvious jokes about Tyler,Mortensen and Weaving –was great. I mean, the guy has been involved in two of the greatest trilogies in the last years,in effect getting even more cult status. What he had from Priscilla has increased now tenfold thanks to Matrix and The Ring. So,you see,Weaving is the Character of the Year. Bookmark It Hide Sites $$(‘div.d1311′).each( function(e){e.visualEffect(‘slide_up’,{duration:0.5}) }); I have been watching various foreign films, hard to describe but,at any rate, miles better than watching The Last Samurai, the story of how a malcontent, maverick, reckless expert is hired away by a gang of rebels, and then trained in their arts;his mentor,a bald guy that speaks in riddles, teaches him [...] | |
